Nephi's Psalms

Yup, love Nephi! I mean really, I do. So this past week in sunday school we learned about Nephi's Psalm. It's beautiful, and heart felt, and makes me wanna become better!
Ok, so what is a psalm you may be asking... It's an inspired hymn or poem, and it's meant to be read aloud. It is essentially a song of praise and betrays deep religious feeling. Psalms can bring us peace, comfort, and encouragement. In the hymnbook it says, “Some of the greatest sermons (psalms and testimonies) are preached by the singing of hymns. Hymns move us to repentance and good works, build testimony and faith, comfort the weary, console the mourning, and inspire us to endure to the end.”

My favorite hymn is "Lord, I would Follow Thee" I love the words of wisdom and love that is shares. Once a few years ago I heard a song that stood out to me. It’s called the Impossible Dream from Man of La Mancha. I’m not the person it describes but would like to become so and have come to think of it as my psalm. It reads:

To dream ... the impossible dream ...

To fight ... the unbeatable foe ...

To bear ... with unbearable sorrow ...

To run ... where the brave dare not go ...

To right ... the unrightable wrong ...

To love ... pure and chaste from afar ...

To try ... when your arms are too weary ...

To reach ... the unreachable star ...

This is my quest, to follow that star ...

No matter how hopeless, no matter how far ...

To fight for the right, without question or pause ...

To be willing to march into Hell, for a Heavenly cause ...

And I know if I'll only be true, to this glorious quest,

That my heart will lie peaceful and calm,

when I'm laid to my rest ...

And the world will be better for this:

That one man, scorned and covered with scars,

Still strove, with his last ounce of courage,

To reach ... the unreachable star ...
